Tax-free childcare, 2025
Digital print on fabric, nursing chair; 45 x 56 x 95cm
The sculpture features an antique wicker nursing chair, 'wearing' a t-shirt printed with a woman’s torso, accross which are written in red lipstick text: 'There's no such thing as free childcare'. It articulates the common assumption that it is free for mothers to breastfeed their babies, as they don't have to buy milk, which does not account for the mother's time and labour. The title alludes to the time (usually mothers') it takes to navigate the arrangement of suitable childcare, whoever is paying for it.
