Tied to her apron strings (2025)
Digital print on fabric, strapping, coat hook; 76 x 136cm
The works consists of an apron on a hook with a 1:1 photographic print of a woman’s torso with ‘LABOUR IS WORKING’ written across the belly in red lipstick. It’s a reminder that in capitalist society, carrying a pregnancy, birthing a baby and then caring for the infant should be understood as a form of labour. Raising this – and the next – generation of workers is referred to as reproductive labour because it enables the reproduction of Capitalism, which relies on the unpaid domestic labour of women to support the foundation of the economy.
